The 2024 Midlands’ show season kicked off on Saturday, 11 May as the NFU Notts team attended the Nottinghamshire County Show.

NFU Nottinghamshire county adviser, Andy Guy, and a team of county officeholders, members, group secretaries and NFU Midlands regional director Rob Newbery, were on-stand in the Countryside area of the popular annual event held at Newark Showground.

The stand itself was dedicated to telling the story of how the food produced by arable farmers gets from field to plate, complete with a huge crop sprayer, courtesy of NFU Lincolnshire council delegate Andrew Ward MBE, different grains, a mini mill and informative displays explaining the finer points of production.

Really busy

NFU Notts county chair, Colin Bower, who helped set up and man the stand, said: “We were blessed with sunny, warm weather and the NFU stand was really busy throughout the day.

“It was great to see so many families and children learning about where their food comes from and getting involved in the display.

“It’s also rewarding to realise that people leave the stand understanding more about how important a farmer’s work is and how it directly connects to them and what they buy.”

Andy said: “The Notts Show is a public-facing one which is attended by families from all over the region, so pitching our message to them is a key part of the day.

“It was great to see so many families and children learning about where their food comes from and getting involved in the display.”

“It was wonderful to see so many of them, as well as NFU members, friends and new acquaintances, on the stand in the middle of such a bustling, busy show full of attractions.”
