Adam Quinney is standing for the position of NFU Vice President.
The NFU:
- is operating at a time when government and the wider public are beginning to appreciate the importance of food production in a sustainable manner.
- has an increasing membership.
- demonstrates positive leadership.
- has excellent staff.
But all this is nothing without grass-roots activity. After a year of not being on council I feel that the very bedrock of the union is becoming ever more disconnected from decision-making by the continued reliance on traditional NFU formats.
If I was elected by council I would create new ways for the union to engage with the membership. In the last few years the work of the union has fallen on fewer shoulders and that in turn has made it more difficult to encourage membership activity. As NFU Vice President I would ensure more support for regional and county activity.
Strong grass-roots activity will support sound policy that in turn will deliver results for us, our organisation and our tremendous industry.
