Alistair Mackintosh is standing for the position of NFU Vice President.
I am an active farmer with two sons who want to pursue a career in agriculture. I am determined to influence our industry in order that they can be confident of profitable careers.
It is vital that we continue to develop a vision and strategies to meet the challenges ahead rather than leave it to politicians. Four years as Livestock Board Chairman, which I have now stepped down from, has allowed me engage with Defra on many issues such as CAP, BTB and animal health and welfare.
My role as Vice Chairman of the COPA beef group has enabled me to be familiar with European matters. The professional relationship that I have created with both ministers and European officials demonstrate my commitment to our industry and will be crucial in future negotiations.
I want to be part of an officeholder team that takes the industry forward with farmers being appropriately recognised and rewarded.
