Joint statement on IPPC work

15 Dec 2006
The NFU, the British Poultry Council, the British Egg Industry Council, the National Pig Association, the Environment Agency and Assured Foods Standards issued a joint statement today on the work they are doing regarding the new Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control regulations.

The Ministerial Challenge Panel for Regulation has asked that the regulatory charges of IPPC and the use of assurance schemes should be examined to look at different ways of delivering regulation and ensuring transparency.

The poultry and pig trade associations (the NFU, BPC, BEIC and NPA) are working together with the Environment Agency and assurance schemes to do this work and look at ways of reducing the burdens and costs of IPPC, of which the assurance schemes may help to provide some of the requirements. It is intended that a report of the findings will be made to the Ministerial panel in the New Year.

However, the trade associations and Environment Agency do advise that by law IPPC applications must be made with the required fee attached within the deadline of January 31 2007. In order for the application to be duly made, it is advisable that applications are sent in two weeks before the deadline.
