NFU President Peter Kendall will be championing the cause of commercial farmers after being invited to address the Oxford Farming Conference in the New Year.
Speaking at the 61st conference on Wednesday January 3, Mr Kendall will present the case for why commercial farming matters amid fears the UK’s farming critical mass is being lost, leaving the country with a falling rate of self-sufficiency.
The timely speech will reflect the NFU’s Why Farming Matters report, which demonstrates what farmers and growers do for the country, at a time when environmental responsibility is high on the farming agenda.
Mr Kendall said: “In light of the Stern report, and with climate change issues at the forefront of people’s minds, I will be stating the need for a strong agricultural industry in the UK.
“With 60 million people to feed, from sources close to home, it has never been more important to support our commercial farmers, while looking after our environmental footprint.”
