I feel as though I should be sat here debating the pro’s and con’s of the new CAP reform as well as considering the impact of George Osborne’s Autumn Statement, but and it may be a relief to you all, I will only pass a quick comment and move on. Now that’s got nothing to do with me being either not interested or apathetic but quite simply I have full confidence in those fighting our corner, i.e. The NFU under the guidance of Peter Kendall and they are in a far better position to do so. What is the point of me getting worked up and irritated about gossip and hear say. It is facts we need then we can form opinions.
As for the government, they find themselves between a rock and a hard place in trying to decrease the deficit and as much as we may dislike certain courses of action that may have been taken, to object in the hope of retrieving a pound will only result in it being taken from me in some other form.
So, to sum it all up as far as I am concerned, it is for me to concentrate on what I know best and to be as economical and profitable as I can be. Surely that is enough to concentrate the mind on at any one time. (I was almost considering building a soap box then).
Meanwhile back in my world nature is trying to even itself up. To read about the vast amount of rain that you in Northern Ireland, Scotland and the north of England have had seems unbelievable seeing that we are well below par here, and let’s be honest you’re not a million miles away. Crops have evened themselves up somewhat, even though it took nearly two months for some to emerge and we now have more grass than we have seen all year.
I will end with an apology to most farmers as I have been on holiday again. I will be giving some of us a bad name but a week in Madeira was for health reasons; yes, Lesley told me she would kill me if I did not take her away for some sunshine. (It was glorious though).
