The first ever cows arrived at the NEC in Birmingham this morning ahead of the two-day Dairy Event and Livestock Show, which begins tomorrow.
First down the tailgate at 9.00am was an entry from the Saxby family’s Saxown Jersey herd based at Skipton, North Yorkshire. Herdsman, Frank Poskitt said: “There was a little trepidation over what we would find on arrival at the new site but having looked round Fullwood’s milking facility and the wash down area, our first impression is this is a good set up with great facilities for the cows.”
More than 220 cattle entries are making the trip and will spend today settling into a two-acre Livestock Hall. Event organisers, theRoyal Association of British Dairy Farmers, have organised facilities for clipping and wash down, as well as the bespoke milking parlour.
The NFU will be out and about to bring you pictures and news from the event. Officeholders and advisers will be on hand and we’ll also be teaming up with NFU Mutual - offering members the chance to get closer to their group secretaries - and providing specialist on-stand advice from our food and farming and policy teams.
