NFU Conference 2010 - Day Two preview

23 Feb 2010

Farming and the environment is the core conference topic on day two – and with the need to produce more while impacting less climbing the political agenda and the Campaign for the Farmed Environment well into its stride, there’s plenty to talk about.

climate change 275184High profile speakers include Minister of State at the Department of Energy and Climate Change, the Rt Hon Lord Hunt, the Environment Agency chairman Lord Smith and eminent experts Prof Dianna Bowles OBE and Prof Chris Pollock CBE.

The session begins at 10:30am and, as ever, you can watch live (and watch again) over the internet here.

First up though it’s the traditional breakfast meetings (7:30am), this time focussing on tenant issues, the uplands and the CFE itself. NFUonline will be up bright and early to provide coverage – see our conference 2010 news channel for details.

The morning continues with our popular workshops (8.45am). This year low carbon farming, animal welfare and health and food security are the topics, with the later getting the NFU ‘webinar’ treatment. Watch live and post your questions here and find out more about the webinar here.

Big-ben-184275In the afternoon, there’s a new addition to the conference programme. Continuing the pre-General Election focus, and book-ending nicely with the opening political session, our Question Time runs from 1.30pm. Chaired by the BBC's Ed Stourton, the speakers include Shadow Farming Minister Jim Paice, Liberal Democrat Food and Rural Affairs Spokesman, Roger Williams, and Plaid Cymru Shadow Minister Elfyn Llwyd.  You can watch live here.

Conference officially ends at 3pm, but the NFU Council will stay on for the AGM and election of the officeholder team which will lead the organisation until 2012. NFUonline will be first with the news here.
