Order those tags in good time

28 Jul 2010
Sheep keepers have ordered more than 2.5 million pairs of tags for adult animals and upwards of 6.4 million batch tags for lambs since the beginning of this year.

SheepThat’s left suppliers working hard to meet demand as we approach a traditionally busy time. The NFU is therefore strongly advising members to order in good time if they need to ID or move animals, to allow the demand to be met in a managed way.

Keepers should also seek their supplier’s advice on the type of tag to use, with regard to the size, age and breed of the animals, and follow carefully the advice on the application of the tags.

Before ordering lamb tags, we would also suggest you consult your customers in case they have a commercial preference for you to use an EID batch tag as opposed to a non-electronic tag.

- Advice on ordering and applying tags can be found here.
