The NFU has said it looks forward to working with the new interim chief executive of the Rural Payments Agency, Richard Judge.
The appointment was announced by agriculture minister Jim Paice earlier today.
NFU President Peter Kendall said: “I am looking forward to working with the new interim chief executive for the RPA to ensure the improvements begun under Tony Cooper continue, particularly in the wake of the recent RPA review report.
“The RPA has made improvements but more needs to be done before it reaches a state where it is fit for purpose. This is a challenging role working with what could be a whole new payment regime after 2013, made all the more challenging by severe public spending cuts that are expected in the autumn.
“I wish Richard Judge success in ensuring payments that are made to farmers are done so accurately and on time.”
