Pupils from Gateway Primary School in London tried their hand at milking and got to grips with a variety of farm crops when the NFU’s roadshow paid them a visit.
Children met Annabelle the model dairy cow and also learned all about wheat, barley, oats and oilseed rape. The visit gave the NFU a chance to promote farming in the city and show off its newly-designed Let’s Talk Farming roadshow.
NFU President Peter Kendall said: “The visit was an opportunity for the NFU to talk farming with youngsters to help them understand the role of farmers and growers and how they can meet the demand for food, while impacting less on the environment. It’s also a chance for them to learn the story of how food makes its way from the farm and onto our dinner plates.
“It is great that youngsters who live in the capital take a keen interest in British farming and it is good to see how much the roadshow, and its presenter Johnny Ball, helped to put a smile on their faces.”
