From the supermarkets ombudsman to bovine TB to the weather, the NFU was called on to comment on a range of farming-related issues in the media this week.
Our Head of Food and Farming, Phil Hudson, spoke to The Spectator about the National Trust's MyFarm scheme and the wider issues surrounding provenance as well as different farming methods (read the article here).
The Observer carried a lengthy feature of why an ombudsman is needed to monitor the food chain in this country, carrying with it several references to the NFU plus an interview with our President, Peter Kendall (read it here). The Mail on Sunday also covered the story.
Meanwhile, water policy adviser Jenny Bashford joined BBC Countryfile presenter John Craven for a piece about the weather and potential long-term impacts (watch here).
The NFU was also quoted in BBC Countryfile’s magazine on the dangers posed to livestock and crops by ongoing dry weather conditions.
There were further interviews with Rachel Carrington (ITV Anglia and the drought), Robert Craig (Farming Today and ITV Borders on TB as well as ITV Borders again on food prices), Pamela Forbes (BBC Radio Norfolk), Charles Tassell (BBC Radio 5 Live’s On the Money) and Neil Cutler (BBC One South and TB). In all, there were a total of 65 NFU mentions in the national media this week.
