The 10th World Association of Beet and Cane Growers’ conference has been hailed as rivaling any in the event's 30-year history.
The event, hosted by the NFU and held in the UK for the first time, concluded at the end of last week. It delivered an exciting and varied programme of sessions, technical tours and social events and has set the benchmark for future WABCG conferences.
NFU sugar board chairman William Martin was appointed the new President of WABCG at the end of the event. He said: “The conference has been a great success and I have had nothing but positive comments from delegates that attended. Not only did it offer them a chance to discuss the most important issues facing the wider industry, it also provided a great insight into the UK sugar industry via the technical tours and showcased the best of British in the social events.”
Outgoing President, Alf Cristaudo, speaking on behalf of WABCG said: “The Conference would like to express its sincere thanks to the NFU for its hospitality, the organisation of well-chosen and particularly interesting technical visits and the excellent working conditions and support provided throughout the conference.”
The 11th WABCG conference is in India in 2013.
