Bluetongue on a scale as seen in Belgium could cost the average British livestock farm over £7,500.
Thousands of farms across Europe - including England - have already faced economic hardship as a result of the disease.
On European farms, Bluetongue infection has caused reduced milk yields, deaths, abortion and depressed fertility (by as much as 40%).
Responsible vaccination saved English farmers from bluetongue last year - and must do so again. Previously vaccinated animals must receive a booster and non-vaccinated animals need to start their programme now.
Vaccination remains the only effective way to protect your stock from Bluetongue. For further guidance and to order your vaccine speak to your vet.
