An article about Neosporosis was published in a recent edition of Farmers' Weekly (Friday 13th August). This is an important parasitic disease which largely affects cattle and dogs. It can cause abortion, loss of production and increased culling rates amongst cattle. Click here to go to the Farmers' Weekly website and article.
In August 2009, NFU provided advice to members on NFU Online which was also highlighted in various NFU Member newsletters such as Beef and Sheep and Technically Speaking which described the transmission cycle of this disease and ways to control or prevent it from entering your herd. We also raised the issue with the Master of Foxhounds Association, the Kennel Club and the Rambers Association.
The NFU member briefing is still relevant and useful and we would urge all cattle farmers, vets and dog owners to familiarise themselves with this disease by downloading the briefing here.
