Chlorpyrifos is an important insecticide in a number of different crops, however its continued registration is currently under threat. It is used for control of a wide range of pests in many different crops. The three major approval holders are embarking on a stewardship campaign to try and save the product. A website about the campaign is being established at http://www.saynotodrift.co.uk and materials are being provided to trainers as part of this year’s NRoSO Operator training course.

As a top fruit grower chlorpyrifos is sometimes the only product available to deal with pest infestations. Withdrawal of this product would cause problems because although we have newer products they are very specifric and not always so effective which means that with the newer products you have to spray maybe five separate sprays whereas dursban will do the job in one hit saving time and money.
