We are plea
sed to announce that the application for an emergency authorisation for NO Scald DPA 31 on apples has been successful.
This is for a one-off 120 day period starting on 28 July 2011 and running to 24 November 2011.
Please note that as a condition of approval the following apply:
- There is a restriction on the maximum time period for which an individual can spend in treating, including moving treated apples, of three hours per day.
- Engineering control of exposure must be used where reasonably pratically in addition to gloves, face protection and protective clothing.
- The Maximum Residue Level (MRL) for DPA is currently being reviewed at a European level due to the fact that DPA is no longer included as an active at a European level on ec/91/414. When an active loses its approval the MRL drops to the Limit of Quantification. This would mean it being reduced from 5mg/kg to 0.05mg/kg. The earliest this would happen is August 1 2012. The process could take longer than planned, and so this date be delayed, but any apples or produce containing apples which is marketed after this date would have to comply with the new MRL limit. We are currently gathering information on how best to comply with this new MRL but any users need to be aware of this and consider when and how they are marketing their crop prior to using DPA.
- The maximum concentraion must not exceed 630ml of product per 100 litres of water.
The application was funded by growers from Northern Ireland and England and was submitted jointly by the Northern Ireland fruit growers and the NFU.
