An amnesty which allows for the disposal of any unwanted, out-of-date or revoked pesticides and biocides has been announced.
It will run from January 3 to March 14 2011 and comes as part as part of Project SOE, which aims to ensure that pesticides and biocides are stored and used in a safe and sustainable way, protecting people, wildlife and the environment.
The amnesty will be administered by Killgerm Chemicals Ltd and the only cost is a one-off registration fee of £20.
Any quantity of product can be disposed of, provided a list of the products, quantities, packaging and information about the condition of packaging is supplied at the time of registration.
Additional pesticides not on the list will result in an extra £20 charge.
For full details visit www.projectsoe.org. Registration will start on December 17.
It’s worth noting that the scheme has a limited budget which may well run out before the closing date. Early registration is therefore recommended.
NFU Vice President Gwyn Jones said: “A huge range of products have lost UK approval as pesticides and biocides for variety of reasons over the last few years. This is a great opportunity to check your stores and dispose of anything that is out of date on no longer legal.”
