Attached is the summary of the results from the prior notification trial carried out in autumn 2009 by the NFU which looked looked at comparing the different methods of prior notification.
Key findings were:
- due to the difficult spraying season results were only obtained from 15 farms
- there was no evidence of raising concern amongst neighbours with only 0.67% of neighbours who were contacted asking to be notified
- the preferred method of contacting neighbours was by letter
- the preferred notification method was by text
