The European Commission is currently reviewing the medicated feed legislation.
Any changes could have an impact on anyone who uses medicated feed or is involved in on farm mixing of medicated premixtures into rations.
The European regulations surrounding medicated feed are contained in Directive 90/167/EEC and were last reviewed over 20 years ago. The current review aims to cut unnecessary administrative burden on medicated feeds (MF) and harmonise the marketing of MF across the EU to reflect technical progress since the current regulations were adopted. The Commission issued a consultation which closed on the 30 May 2011.
The consultation was very general and unfortunately, some of the questions asked for closed replies so it was not always possible to outline the counter arguement. In addition, the supplemental explanations on the official response website were limited to 255 characters. For this reason, we have also sent the Commission a copy of our full response. The NFU responses are contained in the related documents on the right of the page.
