The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is currently reviewing the ways it recovers the cost of its inspections and enforcement activities. The HSE propose that in future, if you are found to be in material breach of health and safety law, the HSE would recover all the costs of that intervention (e.g. improvement and prohibition notices, electronic mail or letter). A material breach is a breach of health and safety law which requires formal intervention. Interventions would be charged at £133 per hour. Those that are compliant or are only found to be in technical breach of health and safety law, whereby health and safety law has been breached, but does not require a formal intervention, would not have to pay a fee for intervention.
The NFU response to the consultation can be found in the related document tab at the top of the page.

Is it correct that the HSE are rumoured to be charging £1800.00 per formal intervention, or is the charge at an hourly rate? This charge was mentioned by an HSE inspector.
