As part of its review of air policy, the European Commission has launched a consultation inviting interested parties to share their views on the best way to improve the EU's air quality legislation.
The consultation is divided into two parts - a short questionnaire for the general public and a longer section for experts and other groups involved in the implementation of EU air quality legislation.
The Commission outlined its plans for the review earlier this year which included plans to update the Air Thematic Strategy (and associated measures such as the revision of the National Emissions Ceilings Directive) with a view of adopting an up-to-date clean air strategy package no later than 2013.
Although most of the Commission’s short-term actions appear to be directed at the transport sector, it also highlights that measures under the CAP and the revision of the UNECE Gothenburg Protocol will be important.
The consultation is open until 30 September and the NFU will be responding.
