Defra has issued a short consultation on three proposed changes to the Welfare of Animals (Slaughter or Killing) Regulations 1995.
The proposals would permit the use of a biphasic carbon dioxide gas mixture to kill poultry in slaughterhouse; extend the range of birds which may be killed on-farm by gas mixtures and extend the time limit for bringing a prosecution under the regulations.
We would like to hear your thoughts on these important issues and have made our draft consultation response available to members to the right of this page.
Please email Catherine McLaughlin by September 22.
