On Friday 27th January Defra launched its Export Action Plan, a strategy which aims to increase the volume and value of food exported from the UK.
Although a large part of the plan is devoted to enhancing opportunities for "value added" or "finished" food stuffs, the Government has also outlined its plans to open up more foreign markets for agricultural commodities, something which will indirectly benefit all farmers. Many countries still impose restrictions on UK produce, in particular UK produced meat, the new strategy sets out how Government and Industry will work to reduce these barriers, enabling more export opportunities for UK produce.
