We're asking members to share their views and experiences openly if contacted by researchers looking into how rural development money is spent in England.
Rural Development is a key part of the CAP. In England it funds agri-environment and other land management schemes, as well as providing grant support to help agriculture become more competitive and enhance opportunity in rural areas.
As part of the EU requirements, a mid-term evaluation into the programme must be conducted and that process has recently begun. It’s being carried out independently of Defra and will continue over coming months, with Hyder Consulting and ADAS conducting the research.
The evaluation provides an excellent opportunity for all to have their say about the current Rural Development Programme for England.
Research will include contacting farmers that have benefited from rural development funding, as well as those that haven’t, and the intention is that the evaluation findings will help fine-tune the current RDPE and help inform the design of subsequent programmes.
If contacted as part of the evaluation, members are asked to share their views and experiences openly with researchers to ensure that the evaluation reflects the ‘on-the-ground’ experiences of members. More information is available here.
