The UK is the main destination for Irish food and drink exports - accounting for around 45% of the total.
With Irish-origin foods relatively prevalent in some key product categories, Irish agriculture is a major competitor for UK farmers as well as a useful source for comparison in terms of how it is affected by shared problems. With that in mind, our economics team has put together a new briefing covering a drop of 30.6% in the operating surplus of Irish agriculture in 2009, according to preliminary estimates.
