Tuesday 22nd March marks the publication of Natural England’s report to the Secretary of State setting out their proposals for coastal access at Weymouth Bay. This follows on from the public consultation on their Draft Proposals, which the NFU responded to regionally and closed earlier this year on January 10th. This announcement effectively marks the start of the next very important 8-week stage for our members when they can make representations or objections regarding Natural England’s proposals.
The report setting out Natural England's proposals is published on Natural England’s website at www.naturalengland.org.uk/coastalaccess and all representations and objections must be received by Natural England no later than midnight on Tuesday 17th May 2011.
In addition, the start and end points of the next five stretches of coast have also be formally announced, where work is to begin during Spring this year. These are as follows:
• Cumbria – Whitehaven to Allonby
• Hartlepool/Durham/Sunderland – North Bents (north of Sunderland) to Seaton Carew (south of Hartlepool)
• Norfolk – Weybourne (west of Sheringham) to Sea Palling (east of Happisburgh)
• Kent – Ramsgate to Folkestone
• Somerset – Minehead to Brean Down (near Weston Super Mare) and including the whole of the Parrett estuary up to Brean Down.
Work will not start formally on any of these stretches until Natural England have finalised agreements with the relevant local access authorities. When this has been completed, Natural England will be in contact again with the NFU with further details which we will make available on NFUonline.

What happened to an English man's home is his castle? Please would someone ask the chairman of Natural England how he would like us to come and picnic in his garden, with him having no right of eviction. If land is owned privately we should have the right to say who should and should not come onto your property. The government is meant to be encouraging business, we have a caravan site and offer seclusion and privacy to our customers, how many are going to wish to stay once the whole world is allowed access right through the middle of the park.
