Last week Defra announced that annual revenue payments for some educational access visits will now continue within Higher Level Stewardship. In summary:
- Payments for capital items to support educational access visits will continue to be available (no change to the current position which was announced autumn 2010).
- The decision to now continue to fund educational visits will only apply to school pupils up to and including age 16, and for care farm visits for a range of vulnerable groups of people providing a supervised, structured programme of farming related activities. For higher education students (A-level and above) and farmer led walks/talks for youth and special interest groups will remain ineligible for payments (again, no change from last autumn’s announcement).
- There has also been no change to the Government's position regarding the funding for annual revenue payments for the provision of permissive access, which will no longer be available in new HLS agreements.
