Paice replies to CFE letter on CAP greening

19 Dec 2011

Butterfly meadowFarming minister Jim Paice has responded to a letter sent by the partners for the Campaign for the Farmed Environment, in which they expressed their concerns about recently published CAP reform proposals.

In his reply, Mr Paice said he shared many reservations and reiterated the importance of supporting the CFE. He wrote that 'continued participation in the campaign by as many farmers as possible is vital at this stage in the negotiations'. To read the minister's letter please click here.

The key word in Paice's letter is 'influence' an outcome on how the CAP is greened. Without a strong balanced farming input - including the use of terrible phrases such as ecosystem services (incl vitals like soil and habitat management etc) - alongside funds for improved competitive food production efficiency; others will fill the 'consultation void'.
