Pigs-275184Proposals to revise the current IPPC Directive were published by the European Commission in December 2007.

The attached paper outlines the most up-to-date position on the discussions to revise the IPPC Directive since political agreement at the end of June 2009 which marked the end of the “first reading” and the next steps in discussions at “second reading”.

The NFU continues to seriously question whether IPPC is the most effective way to control emissions from agriculture.

The Directive was borne out of a piece of legislation designed with industrial plants in mind and agriculture does not lend itself to the same mechanisms of control.
