View the NFU's draft response to the Defra consultation on the Waste Directive

31 Aug 2010

rubbish wheelie bin 275184Defra is consulting on proposals to transpose the requirements of the revised Waste Framework Directive into English law. The key changes proposed by the revisions to the Directive include:-

  • To apply the 'waste hierarchy' as a priority order in waste legislation; and
  • To set up 'separate collections' of waste for paper, metal, plastic and glass by 2015 where technically, environmentally and economically practicable.

Defra's proposals are discussed in full on its website here.

The paper attached to the right of this page outlines the key implications for agriculture and sets out the draft response of the NFU to the Defra proposals.

Comments on the NFU's draft response are invited before 13th September 2010. Contact Diane Mitchell (diane.mitchell@nfu.org.uk)
