The government has been consulting on proposals for a Renewable Heat Incentive, which from April 2011 will provide financial support for newly-installed renewable heating (including biomass, solar energy, heat pumps and pipeline biogas).
The NFU has coordinated its response closely with the technical experts of the Renewable Energy Association, with whom we have a close association. We are particularly concerned about the eligibility of simple light-duty batch-fed biomass boilers and heaters, several thousands of which have been installed in the UK over the past 30 years.
We are also keen to see straight vegetable oil recognised as an alternative heating fuel, and for typical farm-based AD plants and heating systems to be excluded from reporting on bioenergy sustainability standards.
