Guidance for anyone interested in the benefits of good soil management
In 2007, the Environment Agency published a guidance manual on the benefits of good soil management called 'thinksoils'. Reading 'thinksoils' comes highly recommended if you are interested in finding out how to improve your soil management, to learn how to examine your soil, or to remedy problems such as soil structure and run-off.
The manual is available to download free of charge from the Environment Agency Publications Catalogue by clicking on the "Related Link" to the right of this page and searching for 'thinksoils' (all one word) in the "Publication Title" box. If you would prefer a hard copy, these are available at a cost of £8.50 from the same EA website, otherwise you can download the guidance chapter by chapter in PDF format.
Topics covered in the manual include:
- Factors that influence run-off
- Examining soils in the field
- Identifying structural problems associated with soil type
- General principles to avoid fun-off
