Waste reminder - use of waste materials as animal bedding

16 Jan 2012

Cute calf cutoutRecent press coverage of prosecutions by the Environment Agency serve as a timely reminder that farmers need to be aware of waste regulations when bringing material onto farm for use as animal bedding.

Things can easily go wrong, even when waste contractors or specialist advisers/consultants are involved.  Farmers need to be aware that waste recovery operations which deposit unsuitable waste materials onto farmland could leave them with an expensive clean-up, or even facing prosecution.

NFU Members can view an NFU Briefing on what you need to know by clicking under 'Related Documents'.

For further information on waste exemptions call: 03708 506 506 or visit the Environment Agency website.
