Red Tractor Logo squashes consumer concerns

04 Mar 2011
A report has found almost a fifth of foods promoted as "local" in England and Wales are falsely labelled. The report claAFS - conf 2011ims local government regulation inspectors found labels on 18% of products tested in 300 shops, restaurants, markets and factories made false claims about their provenance.

The NFU has not been privy to the full details of the report. However the NFU would always recommend consumers to look out for the Red Tractor logo. The Red Tractor Scheme has clear traceability and food standards that UK consumers can trust. Red Tractor certification shows consumers that they are buying food and drink that meets strict standards of food safety, environmental protection and animal welfare with a guarantee of origin. If shoppers want to be sure that the products they are buying are produced, processed and packed in the UK then they should look for the Union Flag in the Red Tractor logo.

David Clarke, CEO, Red Tractor Assurance, says; “It’s important that the general public can trust that their food has come from traceable and reliable responsible sources, so we at Red Tractor work tirelessly with UK farmers, processors, packers and retailers to give as much clarity as possible and provide full traceability from farm to shelf.”
