The NFU’s reputation among food service operators has been recognised with the union being asked to judge at the Footprint Awards in May.
The event recognises ‘innovation that has a positive impact on sustainability’, and raises awareness of the efforts being made to secure a sustainable future for the industry. Food chain adviser Lorna Hegenbarth will sit on the judging panel and is encouraging members with food service outlets or who supply restaurants, to get involved in the nominations.
Lorna said: “There will be a number of members who have food service outlets or have links with supplying restaurants, be it in hospitals, work places canteens, hotels or schools, members may well want to nominate these.”
She added: “It’s great news. You would expect the NFU to be involved in farming awards, but this is the other end of the supply chain, and highlights the increasing level of engagement we have amongst food service operators.”
