Film fee for farmer?

23 Sep 2011

Ask a Stupid Question is a BBC series which aims to answer quirky questions about science.

One of those is: ‘Will we all be wiped out by an Asteroid?’ And if you’re a farmer or landowner with a JCB who doesn’t mind hosting an explosion on their land, you could help find out.

The show’s makers are looking for a suitable area of land between Bristol and London.

Any kind of industrial backdrop is a bonus, but not essential, and the soil needs to be free of rubble or large stones and ideally fairly dense and moist.

The project would involve setting explosive charges a metre beneath the ground and detonating them to create a crater 3m wide and 1m deep. A special effects team will be on hand to conduct the explosion and ensure everything goes smoothly.

After filming, the site will be returned to its original state. The assistance of a digger or JCB is required to help refill the crater. The production team will pay a fee and help with sourcing any additional equipment. Filming will take place on October 14th.
