Morrisons Buys Simply Fresh Foods

27 Jul 2010
Morrisons has acquired product packing business Simply Fresh Foods. The Manchester-based company, which supplies stir-fry mixes, prepared vegetables, and ready-to-eat salad products, will join the supermarket group’s manufacturing division Morrisons Produce Ltd. to provide a dedicated produce packing and distribution service.

In the year to 31 December 2009, Simply Fresh Foods made a pre-tax profit of £182,000 on turnover of £16.8m. Morrisons is already a significant food producer with 13 manufacturing sites and 13 distribution centres. The group said it plans to invest in developing the Simply Fresh Foods facility with new equipment. "The acquisition of this business will make an important contribution to serving the needs of our customers as we continue to grow from national to nationwide," the retailer said in a statement.
