NFU chief economist Phil Bicknell featured on BBC Radio 4 this morning as Farming Today continued its week-long focus on food prices.
Mr Bicknell shared his thoughts on figures from the Office for National Statistics tracking a 20% fall in the retail price of carrots in December, with potatoes also costing shoppers 10% less.
Those findings came despite a much-publicised general trend of increasing prices at the checkouts – and rising input costs for farmers, particularly where fuel and fertiliser are concerned.
