Making farm assurance easier

17 Jan 2011

A new leaflet summarising the Red Tractor Beef and Lamb Scheme has been published and sent to more than 21,000 farmer participants in England.

Red TractorThe A5 quick guide provides a concise companion, covering everything from how to join to choices of certification bodies, assessment criteria and how to maintain assurance once you are certified. It also points out some of the common areas of non-conformance picked up by assessors.

To help farmers prepare for an assessment, the standards which require a record are highlighted and there’s a quick tick-box check-up to make sure everything is in order.

Read the guide here.

Copies are currently being sent to assured livestock markets to help spread the Red Tractor messages. Stocks are also available from the beef and lamb licensed certification bodies and Red Tractor Beef and Lamb.

Some 78,000 farmers and growers are part of the Red Tractor Assurance chain in total.

The logo helps to demonstrate the high standards followed by producers and gives consumers confidence that their food meets strict safety, animal welfare and environmental protection criteria – and comes with a guarantee of origin.

Standards are maintained all the way from field to fork and all scheme farmers, processors and packers are regularly inspected by independent experts.
The Red Tractor logo now features on products with an annual retail sales value of £10 billion.
