Changes to fuel supply in 2011

10 Mar 2010

From January 2011, there will be changes to gas oil for mobile equipment such as tractors, forklifts and other agricultural machinery.petrol pump 275184

Overarching EU Directives designed to improve air quality will mean that from 1 January 2011, all gas oil sold for use in off-road mobile machinery must be virtually sulphur free.

This fuel will be essential for engines fitted to newer tractors which are manufactured to meet stringent new EU emission standards and may be damaged by using high sulphur fuel.

This new low sulphur fuel stock is also likely to contain up to 7% biodiesel content, which will mean that housekeeping arrangements for fuel storage should be reviewed to avoid any potential problems.

We have prepared a briefing for members which outlines some of the actions it is advisable to consider before the new fuel is introduced from the end of this year.  The briefing can be viewed by clicking the related documents on the right.
