Fuel prices spike as temperatures drop

09 Dec 2010

We’ve had worrying reports from NFU members of fuel prices spiking by up to 40% in the last few days.

New pound coin In one case, kerosene for bulk delivery had increased by 3ppl overnight. Elsewhere members have told us about LPG costs rocketing up by 11p with one week's notice and 40% increases on heating oil.

To help us build a picture of the current situation, please tell us if you’ve been quoted much higher prices recently by using the comments section on the bottom of the page, or by emailing hereRemember to tell us where you are, what fuel you’ve been buying, what the prices/quotes were and how the picture has changed in recent days.

Alternatively use our Inputs Price Monitor to report prices for a variety of farm purchases and allow us to monitor what’s happening in your area.

I have just been quoted 74.95 per ltr on 1,500 ltrs. This is pure profiteering, I paid 42.9 in June of this year! There is no REAL reason for this scandalous price hike as the cost of oil has risen only marginally. I hope that there will be serious consequences for these shameless exploiters. i.e. that they all lose their custom base. Shame on them.

No supplier will quote for tractor diesel and delivery for kerosene will be middle of Jan at earliest. What is going on?!
