The NFU has responded to a Department for Transport consultation which looks at how low sulphur diesel will be introduced into the UK from the end of the year. Following feedback from members, the NFU outlined concerns over storage and use of the new fuel in older machines as well as highlighting the likely cost of the changes to industry in capital and increase fuel charges.
The response details how the changes will mean some farms will need to make investments in fuel storage and in consumables for tractors such as extra filters and replacement pipes and seals. The NFU has called on the Department to ensure that oil refiners and fuel suppliers are giving farmers all of the information and guidance they need to make the right decision for their own business in order to effectively cope with the change.

I am most cocerned with the change in the fuel for tractors in that the air may be cleaner but the fuel will be more problems than ever. I am told that it will contain up to 10% water. That is not ideal with modern engines which require ever cleaner fuel.
