What's happening to fuel prices?

18 May 2010

Red diesel prices are at their highest since summer 2008, according to the NFU/Farmers Weekly Inputs Price Monitor survey.

fuel gauge On average they have increased to 52.9 pence per litre - but prices have peaked as high as 57ppl in some parts of the country.

The figures for April mirror findings from the Freight Transport Association, who also report prices of over 51ppl for high volume bulk deliveries of gas oil. The last 12 months have seen the price of red diesel rise by over 14 pence, an increase of 38 %. In that time, spot brent crude has climbed by more than 50%, from $57 to $86 per barrel.

There’s been some let-up in the first half of May, with oil prices dropping by $10 per barrel following investor concerns over debt problems in the Euro-zone. However, this is thought to be a temporary blip in what commentators forecast as a period of sustained high oil prices. And the drop has not translated through to farm or pump prices, with the AA calling on retailers to pass the savings on for other grades at the pump.

We want you to tell us what you’re paying for your red and white diesel and kerosene. Just hover over the stars at the bottom to leave a comment. Remember to including the prices, volumes and your whereabouts. The more comments we receive, the better the picture we can build about the situation on farms around the country, giving you a good idea of the 'going rate'. See below for the reports so far.
