01 Jan 2011

Livestock producers should assess any steep ramps on livestock trailers and trucks to make sure they comply with the maximum legal angles which have started to be enforced from the beginning of this year.Livestock trailer ramp

  • Pigs, calves and horses should be loaded on ramps of no steeper than 20 degrees, that is 36.4% to the horizontal (equivalent to a vertical rise of four over a distance of 11)
  • Sheep and cattle other than calves should have ramps at an angle of no more than 26 degrees 34 minutes, that is 50% to the horizontal (equivalent to a vertical rise of four over a distance of eight).
