We’ll be helping to make the case for the tenant sector with a guided walk at a Cheshire county farm today (Tuesday).
The event comes shortly after Cheshire West & Chester Council announced a review of its estate and our aim is to highlight to councillors what the authority gets above and beyond the rental income generated. NFU rural surveyor, Louise Staples, will attend to help raise the importance of county farms nationally, at a time when many authorities are urgently looking for savings.
We’ve responded to the Cheshire West and Chester Council scrutiny committee ahead of its December 6 meeting.
Gloucestershire is also looking at selling off some of its county farms to raise revenue and has sent a consultation document to all tenants and stakeholders including the NFU, CLA, TFA and YFC. We organised an initial meeting for tenants, where Coun Raymond Theodoulou spoke along with Robert Fox, an agent for Gloucestershire County Council.
The NFU is helping all the tenants coordinate a response to the review and has organised another meeting for December 21. Contact our South West regional office for details.
