Hill farmers have begun to receive the new Uplands Transitional Payment, the RPA has reported.
Figures published by the agency today show that 1,525 farmers have received full payments in the first week, representing 70% of eligible claimants and £5.1m in value.
The UTP can be made once administrative checks have been completed – but it is dependent on applicants’ SPS claims also being fully validated.
This is the first year of the scheme, which has been aimed at farmers unable to enter the new strand of Environmental Stewardship (Uplands Entry Level Stewardship), due to continuing commitments in Environmentally Sensitive Area or Countryside Stewardship Scheme agreements.
Uplands ELS succeeded the Hill Farm Allowance. You can download the Uplands Transitional Payment 2012 to 2014 here.
