Upland ELS questions and answers (Version 3, amended 9th February 2010):

01 Mar 2010
Upland ELS questions and answers (Version 3, amended 9th February 2010): hill farm landscape 275184

The NFU has prepared a recently updated UELS Q&A (which can be downloaded from clicking the file to the right hand side of this page) which has answers to some the emerging questions. This document is intended to provide quick answers to some of the most frequently asked questions from members around England regarding the new Uplands Entry Level Scheme (Uplands ELS). This document will be updated from time to time with new information as it becomes available, meanwhile you should always check the Uplands section of the new version 3 ELS handbook as this will contain further details regarding eligibility which may not appear in the document.

Special guidance for commons:
Meanwhile, following lobbying from the NFU, Defra and Natural England have prepared guidance for commoners regarding what commoners need to do to get commons mapped on the RLR and what commoners need to think about in drawing up an agreement to enter into a UELS. This is now available on Natural England’s Environmental Stewardship web pages and will also available to download  from NFU Online.

The Uplands Transitional Payment (or "UTP")
The RPA’s new explanatory booklet on the Uplands Transitional Payment should by now have been sent to all those Hill Farm Allowance claimants they think may be eligible to receive the payment. If you have not received the booklet call the RPA on 0845 603 7777. Alternatively you can download a copy from here (see document on the right) or the RPA website
