The areas of education, training and skills development and its contribution towards sustainable growth, the economy and wider society are high on the government’s agenda.
The time is right to address skills within agriculture for existing employees and the workforce of the future.
Skills and training investment are fundamental in helping business achieve the productivity, innovation and profitability needed to compete effectively. A sustainable agricultural industry will only be achieved with a highly skilled, motivated and dynamic workforce.
The NFU and industry partners have therefore established the Agri-Skills Forum to ensure skills issues are being addressed in the agriculture and horticulture industries. The Agri-Skills Strategy, produced by key members of the forum, seeks to embed skills development into everyday business practice.
It calls for the continuing development of a professional workforce that is recognised and rewarded accordingly, while securing the workforce of the future by offering what must be seen as a career of choice in agriculture and horticulture, not one of last resort.
The Agri-Skills pages outline the work of the forum and the news pages provide latest information on NFU work and initiatives on skills and training development, along with the latest policy developments regarding the government skills strategy and accessible funding.
