Christmas has come early for nine-year old Fran Axton after winning first prize in a farming poetry competition.

Fran, from Wilburton, near Ely took part in the NFU’s Let’s Talk Farming poetry challenge, run in association with Britains Farm Toys.
And her way with words has earned her first place in the East of England region and a bumper selection of toys, including a tractor, Land Rover, farmers and cattle.
She was presented with her prize by Cambridgeshire farmer Trevor Bedford, a member of the NFU’s Ely branch.
Trevor said: “Fran’s poem really captured life on a busy farm and the tremendous variety of produce grown in Cambridgeshire.”
The competition was promoted through the NFU’s Let’s Talk Farming Roadshow and at events including agricultural shows and Ely Harvest Festival.
Harriet Lampard from Britains Farm Toys said: “All of the entries this year have been absolutely brilliant and really impressive. The children have articulated perfectly just how much they have learnt about farming. With their prizes they can now put their learning into practice with their own farms!"
